Dirty Third

It was my Dirty Third (33rd) birthday on Sunday. I sure as heck don’t feel 33 nor do I act it. I really have no idea how 33 year olds are suppose to act. I definitely had other ideas of what my life would be like at this age. I figured I would have a child by now and definitely at different spot in my career. Things happen for a reason and I’m blessed I have a job, my health, a great husband, great family and friends. However, wisdom does come with age and I have realized a lot more in this past year about certain things.

On another note, I’m going snowboarding in a week. Super ecstatic!!! I didn’t think we were going to go this year since I was hoping for a baby bump but no baby bump… so my hubby and I are hitting the slopes the first week of March. Woohooo!!!!!!!!! and boooooo on no baby bump. But that’s ok, I’m sure it will happen when it happens. Shall not stress about it.

Here’s to another year of greatness!!!!!

However I’m still exhausted from this weekends festivities. Congrats Bonny and Liem on your marriage. What a beautiful wedding. Thank you for letting me be a part of it!

I really need to figure out to pose for these pictures. It’s already awkward that I’m taking them in my office. This is the reason why I rarely take outfit posts. But it’s a new year and I need to try it out again. Let’s see how long this will last.

So my perm has straightened out. I mean it has been 2 years since I last permed it. So now my trick is to put my hair in a top knot bun for a couple of hours while it’s still wet and then spray a light hairspray in it. VOILA! I don’t plan on perming my hair again for awhile. But I am itching to do something drastic to my mane. Not sure what though. However, I’ve had a lot of comments on my long locks. Peeps are saying to keep it long…

I am going to be better than I was last year on my DIY projects and blogging. I looked back on 2011 and noticed I didn’t do any DIY projects and barely posted. For shame!!!! I’m disappointed in myself. But this year, I vow that I will be better.

So for this month, I'm baking cupcakes and making a banner for my friend’s bridal shower which is tomorrow. That means I will cover my ‘DIY’ item for the month.

My goal is to do at least one DIY project each month. It can be either décor, baking, or any type of arts and crafts. Would just need to put aside at least 2 hrs of my time once a week and do something crafty.

Now on to what I should do next? hmmmm

Here is a picture of my sweet nephew and his new baby brother…Carlito is now 3 yrs and 4 months. Wolfie is going to be 2 months tomorrow. Time flies!!!

oh and I’M GOING TO COACHELLA!!!!! So excited!!! who else is going?

As of late…

People have annoyed me with this ONE question.

Are you pregnant yet?

Really? I’m tired of telling people that I am not. I’ve already told these people to NOT ask me again and that I will tell them when it does happen.

Get this, some people would have the audacity to say… it’s not that hard to get pregnant. LOOK asswipe, it’s not your f&*king business or problem. I’m just trying to enjoy my intimate moments with my husband, please don’t question it. Don’t put pressure where there shouldn’t be.

We have already decided that when it happens, it will happen. So we will not put too much pressure on ourselves with that matter. We are keeping healthy and enjoying ourselves.

Here are a couple of awesome scenarios:

Scenario #1:

person #1: when are you going to have kids
me: not sure, it’s not really up to me
person #1: it’s not that hard
me: hmmm, well it’s not hard to have sex
person #1: well didn’t you say you will start trying when you are ready? like have a good job, house, etc
me: yes I’m ready
person #1: so why don’t you have a kid yet?
me: the stork ran out of babies, so he’s doesn’t have any left to give me
person #1: (astonished look)

Thank goodness that ended that conversation…

Scenario #2:

person: are you pregnant yet?
me: no
person: are people bothering you about it?
me: yes
person: so I guess I’m bothering you?
me: quite possibly

Scenario #3:

person: so when are you going to have a baby?
me: whenever it happens, it happens
person: well you need to stop traveling and going out so much
me: ok, what does that have anything to do with it?
person: you need to let your body get pregnant and stop doing stuff
me: well then, I guess I will never get pregnant

This was with an elder person, so I tried my very best not to be disrespectful.

Scenario #4:

person: you know you really suck that you don’t have a child right? so many other people have kids
me: thanks (smiled and walked off)

yet another elder person, without being disrespectful I walk away.

The funny thing is, my parents do not pressure nor do they say anything to me in regards to this baby business. They even encourage me to just enjoy my life and tell me that it will happen when the time is right. So be patient and to not stress. Which is what I’ve been trying to do, but there is a daily reminder from random people about it.

So to those people out there that want to ask… please shut the f&*k up and leave me alone. When it happens it will happen. I will let you know. Unless, you are a very good friend of mine. or a close family member, you may ask me all you want, cos you already know me. Much LOVE!

I'm back from vacay. Work was extremely busy today but I made it through. The day passed so quickly. I didn't even have time to visit most of my daily blog reads.

Anyhow, I'm looking into revamping my blog. I really want a simple layout. Any suggestions on inexpensive website designers? I can essentially do it myself but I just don't have the time.

Well I hope everyone had a great weekend. Pictures from my trip will be posted sometime this week. I didn't take as many as I planned on. It's hard getting back into photography mode when it's been so long since I've had a DSLR to play around with. However I am loving my new Nikon D7000.

Ok my title has nothing to do with what I’m posting about.

So last week was my hubby’s birthday. And we went to Mark’s American Cuisine. Since it’s Houston Restaurant Week (more like month), we went with the pre-fixed menu ($35 pp) which included an appetizer, main course, and dessert.

Birthday cake that I bought for him the weekend before his birthday. His BFF threw him a small surprise gathering at a bar. Pecan Praline Ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins. YUMMY!!!

Here’s what we ate at Mark’s

My App: Sashimi Tuna Tartare. Hubby got the soup (no pic taken)

My Entrée: Pork spare ribs

Hubby’s Entrée: Trio (scallop, shrimp, and soft shell crabs)

My dessert: Raspberry Tart with Pistachio Ice Cream

Hubby’s dessert: Seven Layer Choc Cake

Everything was delicious and perfect portions. I was pretty full afterwards. Definitely want to come back to Mark’s to eat from their regular menu. Just not sure when I would want to since I know that you will easily spend over $150 there. I can’t justify that…I guess I’m not a foodie.

Anyhow, leaving for vacay this weekend. So I will be gone again for a week… unless I find time in paradise to blog. I should make time! Yes!

so I’ve been quite MIA. been so busy with the house and just so many diff events as usual. so many ppl having babies and getting married. showers left and right!

so here’s an update of my home décor. the process is brutal and expensive, but we are getting there… no doubt.

here’s the old stairway light, turned it into a hurricane glass. I’m not done with it yet. my plan is to paint the gold trim into a bronze color. I will be doing the same thing to the foyer light as well. it looks almost the same as this one, just bigger and taller.

I tried to do a mobile post while I was there and was a complete fail since the image was too small to even see…

Purpose of the trip was to attend my cousin’s PharmD graduation in New Orleans. But this time I made an effort to go try new things. I normally go there and spend time with family and eat at my aunts and uncles houses. So I never get to eat out over there. And the most I’ve seen as for night life is Bourbon St and the nearby streets, the W, and the club in Harrah’s Casino.

Jacques-Imos Bar/Restaurant – famous for their Alligator Cheesecake. It was delicious. Its more like an Alligator Quiche. We also ordered the Sausage Jambalaya and Crabcakes. Everything was delicious. And on top of that they asked if we wanted to sit in the truck bed and dine. Of course we said YES! Oh and they had the best Garlic Cornbread ever!!!!

We took a last min trip to Austin, TX. We were there for less than 24 hours. Left Saturday April 2 at 8:30pm and came home by 8pm Sunday. I love how its only like 2.5 hrs away.

Went to see OMD (orchestral manoeuvres in the dark) last night at HOB (House of Blues – Houston). I think they were surprised how many fans they still had left. It has been like 14 yrs since their last album. Houston was good to them last night. It was a blast!

Here’s picture of my friend and I with some random dude that reminded us of the guy from Flock of Seagulls except this guy had darker hair color.

And once again I didn’t take a pic of my full outfit. fail again.

so I’m back and will post pics from the trip sometime this week. I went to Telluride, CO for a week to snowboard with 7 other boys. It was rather interesting… and fun! glad to be back home in the warm and humid weather. I dislike the cold but I love snowboarding. So the only time I deal with harsh cold weather is when I’m boarding. Weird right? Can’t wait for wakeboarding season to start! I’m ready to hit the water.

so I missed the Academy Awards last night but of course I am catching up now. My girl crush has been Mila Kunis for a long time now. I have replaced Angelina Jolie with Mila Kunis. I love her in That 70s Show and all the roles that she has played in diff movies. She looked absolutely stunning last night!

i definitely go by that saying. but sometimes i'm too real...

anyways, my work laptop took a crap on monday and yes I'm guilty i use that laptop for everything. thats where I screwed up. but luckily my harddrive can be saved so as soon as I get my new lappie i will be A-OK! and so thats one reason why I haven't blogged this week. using the option to post from blogger instead of Windows Live is complicated for me only because I like the way Windows Live looks and the different things you can use on there. Anyhow, using a temp desktop and I don't want to waste my time installing any apps on here just so I can blog. And this temp desktop is slow like molasses! gahhh!!!

so my birthday is saturday! woot! going to dinner with the hubs and out with the girls on saturday and then brunch with the girls on sunday. fun filled weekend ahead. can't wait!!!

So as I have mentioned numerous times before about a handbag that I have been drooling over and would never buy it because it was way out of my price range… I just couldn’t justify the purchase. WELL… my hubby bought it for me! Happy early birthday to me!!! (feb 12 is my actually bday)

It came in the mail yesterday and I couldn’t have been more ecstatic! I was going to let him wrap it up and give it to me next month but I couldn’t wait so here I am carrying it today.

OMGosh, its soooo cold today. I am wearing knee-high socks and leggings underneath my jeans and a long sleeve underneath my sweater and two jackets! BrRRrrrRRRrrrr… Its in the 30s this morning. I only enjoy the cold when I’m snowboarding (which in fact I am going next month to Telluride, CO). WooHOO!

so what’s everyone’s plans this weekend? I have a few things I have to do and also take maternity photos for a friend. Let’s hope I can channel my inner photographer…

I definitely went more dressy this year than I have ever before.

FOOD:

We ate at Truluck’s. MmMMmmMmmmm Good! Here’s what the hubby and I ate. I failed to take a picture of the dessert before I devoured it.

tuna tartare, crab cakes

3oz filet with mashed potatoes and an asparagus crab sauce, king crab with asparagus and mashed potatoes

OUTFIT:

I kept the blazer on all night. Didn’t want to blind anyone with all the bling that I was carrying with me… LOVE LOVE LOVE my Jonathan Aston Mock Suspender tights from ASOS. Shoes: YSL Tribtoo. Skirt: F21. Top: vintage. Blazer: Bebe

I did my own hair. Thanks to …loveMaegan and her tips on how to do a low messy bun. I think I accomplished something similar. My hair isn’t as long so there was about 10 bobby pins in there along with 2 magic hairpins.

We went to a bar after dinner and then a house party after that. It was a nice and very chill evening.

that’s the weather today for us in houston… I dislike the rainy weather but its not so bad when I’m at work. at least its not when I’m off.

ok so I asked my hubby to take pics of me on xmas day when I wore my new YSLs… here’s the results… my facial expression was ridiculous and so I cropped my head out.

so I took the plunge and bought my very FIRST designer item. and I am soooo in love…

this past weekend was our annual xmas party with family and close friends. it was a blast! and as usual it’s a themed party. 90’s theme! hmmm of course as a hostess I wasn’t able to take any photos. I am sure some photos will surface and I will soon share!

and also in leather. i want to be eco-friendly but i need leather since i am so abusive with my handbags i need something sturdy. those pleather ones just rip so easily since i swing my bag around and throw them around like a sack of beans. hence why i dont ever buy designer. it would be a waste for me to have.

Halloween 2010

I didn’t get very many pictures. The night was a blur. I was in a rush the entire night. And the club was soooo crowded.

anyhow, this is my last year dressing ‘scandalous’ for Halloween. I swear! I was really looking for a one piece but this is all I found that I really liked.

BON Green Dress Run 2010

I love running for a cause.

The participants of this event will help support Girls on the Run Greater Houston. This program is a life-changing, experiential learning program for girls aged eight through fourteen. Creative and uplifting workouts are combined with self-esteem building lessons to encourage girls to develop positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical resources to reduce at-risk behaviors.

update: my injuries are from previous extreme sports activities. i suppose jumping wakes at my age on a wakeboard is out of the question now. i have 2 strained muscles in my neck and shoulders. i have to go through 2 weeks of physical therapy. i am not young anymore… this is what i get for thinking that i am still resilient. it hurts when i'm at work but not when i out running or anything. maybe i'm allergic to work? lol

Houston Fashion Week 2010

houston’s very first fashion week. i think it went quite well. good job houston!

chloe’s S/S 2011 line was vibrant and refreshing. i did love the cute rompers and dresses.

toni whitaker had great dresses that i would totally wear to a special event.

irina shabayeva, did a great job on all the flirty types of dresses. i def loved lots of her pieces

kiton, men’s line. good looking men w/o shirts. nuff’ said. and the clothes was very Mad Men-ish. loves it.

marc bower, edgy. lovesss. hair and makeup was vampy, and i likes.

met chloe dao. she is uber petite!

my sis and i on the ‘red carpet’. didn’t wear anything tooo flashy. so i wore a blue suede skirt and a simple blouse with my jessica simpson dany plats.

so thats the highlights of one of the shows i went to. the other show was put together by another group and it was outdoors. my photos were all crap.

Another Easy DIY

I wanted to make an easy and cute change to my purse (I have had this purse for over a decade now. Bought it from the GAP back in the late 90s).

I pulled out some beads, leather scraps, and feathers.

These beads are from old necklaces

This is a belt that came with some jean shorts, taking it apart to use some of the beads

They sell suede remnants at Hobby Lobby. I have used this for other projects. Its super inexpensive. I think for a bag it was $2.99

Got a package of feathers from Hobby Lobby awhile back and I think it was like $4.99

cut a strip of the suede, I cut about 12 inches

grab a few feathers and lay it right at the tip of the suede strip and wrap thread around it, maybe 20 times or until you think the feather is sturdy onto the suede

Add the beads. Make sure the beads have big holes so you can string them through the strip of suede. I added 6 beads.

And then another set of feathers was wrapped around the leather and another set of 6 beads

Tie the end so that the beads don’t fall out

And then I tied it around the strap of my purse

Tomorrow I will be doing a fun run called the Brian O’Neils Green Dress Run

I’m going to wear a green fairy petal skirt, green top and green fairy wings. Everyone has to wear a green dress. However, I am aware my outfit isn’t a dress but I think they will me slide. I want to win the best dressed contest! My guy friend is going wear a beer maids costume. I think he will definitely win.

I try to at least have one night a week that I do something crafty.

Last week, I bought some antique-looking keys from Michaels and knew immediately that I wanted do something with them as decor for my house.

So here’s what I did:

The smallest key is about 2 inches and the largest key was about 4 inches.

I then grabbed some scrapbook paper, bought it at Hobby Lobby

and pulled out an old shadow box from Urban Outfitters

and with a paper cutter and a hot glue gun, I was able to make this:

I also made another shadow box with key holes instead to match the theme and places these shadow boxes over in my breakfast nook. No pictures yet…

I have been sorta MIA in the blogworld for only a few days and yet I feel like its been weeks! work has been draining but I am taking a mental break so I can write a post. Well deserved break! after this week I hope to be back in full force. I miss all of my daily reads!!!

This past week (as any other weekend) was jammed pack with events.

Saturday I went to a bachelorette/bachelor party. Fun times! Its always great to see good friends.

love my new shoes! I bought them from a friend that bought them from gilt.com. Yay to her having small feet and couldn’t fit them!

Then Sunday I went to the Bayou Arts Festival. Complimentary tickets from Yelp.com. Thanks Yelp Houston!

the weather was beautiful. maybe too hot for some people but i loved it!

found a new local online magazine, culturemap.com. totally love the concept and content of the site. For signing up, I got a free recyclable bag. yay! i love these bags for grocery shopping.

I also went to a bridal shower but I didn’t take any pics. I won the play-do penis sculpting contest. I know of all things, I win that… goodtimes… and I also won the toilet paper wedding dress design too!

I have been super overwhelmed. Most times I can take a good beating. I blame work, it has brought me to a different level of stress sometimes. I even crave for a smoke and I quit over 7 years ago. Yes, I’m a ‘quitter’. The past couple of weeks have driven me to wanting to have a cigarette in such intensity. I don’t recall ever getting myself this stressed about work before. I wonder if its just my hormones. Along with stress there comes my urge to spend! I want to buy clothes and shoes but my focus is only to purchase things for the house. I think holding back from spending is also stressing me out. I know it sounds foolish and very materialistic of me but I do. I convinced myself for so long that i didn’t care or need any of those ‘materialistic’ things for so long that its all coming out in full force and hitting me in the a$$ so hard. I just want so many things!!!! I am well aware that these things are not necessary because I have higher priorities. And it bothers me that it bothers me… makes sense?

UPDATE: bought a lace skirt at Target for $8. Feels a lil better. BUT still wants more. I’m crazy…

If any of you know me well enough, I tend to carry other people’s stress and worries on my shoulders too. I try to help them out to make their lives easier and I have noticed that it doesn’t make my life any easier. But I find peace in helping others in need.

Recently, I figured out who I should and should not help out. I am just tired of people taking advantage of me. I think its noticeable as well. I am definitely more short-tempered and less friendly to certain people. I help and help and help. I don’t expect anything in return but sometimes when I need help (which is very seldom and rare because i can always do things on my own and i have a wonderful husband whom is very helpful as well) there aren’t very many people around. I really thought that I had a different connection with them. Seems as though I am just a friend that they want around for fun things in life. So there’s definitely more than just acquaintances and good friends. You have acquaintances, friends for fun, and good friends that are there for you. Who knew it would take me nearly 32 years to figure this one out.

I wanted to share with everyone an easy recipe that will take you under an hour to prepare for dinner. Its easy, cheap, yummy, and pretty healthy!

And if you were never really a big fan of regular lettuce, you will definitely convert and love Boston lettuce. and its so pretty!

Chicken Stir-Fry Lettuce Wraps

Ingredients

Serves 4

1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
Salt and ground pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, halved and thinly sliced
1 red bell pepper, sliced thinly and remove seeds
3 stalks of green onions, sliced into 1in chunks
1 stalk of basil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon red-pepper flakes
3 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch, mixed with 1 tablespoon water
12 to 16 Boston lettuce leaves (about 2 heads)

Directions

Season chicken with salt and pepper.
In a large nonstick skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil over high heat. Add garlic and cook til lightly brown, then the chicken; cook, stirring constantly, until opaque throughout, 5 minutes. Then add the red-pepper flakes, cook for 30-60 seconds. Transfer to a plate.
Add remaining tablespoon oil to pan, along with the onion and bell pepper. Cook, stirring constantly, until onion is tender and golden, about 4 minutes (reduce heat if browning too quickly). Then add the basil, cook for 30-60 seconds.
Stir in soy sauce, vinegar, and cornstarch mixture; remove from heat. Add chicken and any accumulated juices; toss to coat. Serve in lettuce cups.

the weekend went by so quickly. my friend’s wedding was a success. i played the role of a wedding coordinator and made sure everything went down smoothly. and it did, except for minor details… terrible dj that couldn’t follow directions but other than that. no problems.

DIY: knob bouquet

Last night I made a bouquet for my friend’s wedding. She found it online at 100layercakeonline.com. (click here for the actual link). Thanks 100 Layer Cake for this excellent tutorial and idea.

My very first time making this. I am actually pretty proud of myself.

Here are the supplies:

knobs from Hobby Lobby and Anthropology

Craft crystals and lace pearl ribbon

Fabric (I used an ivory satin, sheer shimmery green fabric and peach tulle – not shown)

Adhesive (fabric glue and hot glue gun)

And a styrofoam cone

I wrapped the cone first with the ivory satin fabric. Then inserted the knobs into the cone with hot glue gun at its tips. I then added the silk hydrangeas in between each knob, affixing them with hot glue gun as well.

With the green fabric, I wrapped it around and over the satin, giving it a ruche effect, using fabric glue to hold it all down. Then I glued the ribbon down with the hot glue gun.

At the bottom of the bouquet, I wrapped the ends up and used a push pin to hold it all together

I also added a tulle bow and crystals randomly on the hydrangeas and bow.

Voila! A knob bouquet!

thanks again 100 layer cake for sharing the diy. now i need to find a more skinnier cone so that the bottom half isn’t so fat! not so bad for my first time right?

I also helped her with her invitations, programs, menu card, party favor tag, and sign in table design. I will spare you guys of all the details and pictures…

Tonight is the rehearsal dinner and I have no idea what I will be wearing… but I do know what I will be wearing tomorrow to the ceremony and reception.

Neiman Marcus is hosting Fashion Night Out this Friday in Houston! Although, I have RSVP’d and then realized that I have my friend’s wedding rehearsal dinner the same night. She will only get married once so of course I am going to the rehearsal dinner!

kiki hates dogs (she doesn’t believe she is one) and being next to rocky just kills her…

Here’s what I purchased to send to Lynzy. And I sure hope she likes it as much as I did! I totally wanted to keep it for myself. A flower ring, and a floral romper. I also made the card.

happy 3 years

hubby and i have been married for 3 wonderful years now. he is the best man out there!

we met back in 1998. started to date in 2000. we were together for a lil over 2 years and then broke up for nearly 2 years. got back together in 2005. married in 2007. (he is the only guy i ever broke up with and went back to. a break up is a break up for me 99.9%. but something told me that he is the ONE!)

this is our first date, he took me to the houston zoo. he remembered that i wanted to go to the zoo since the last time i went before that was in elementary school:

our first vacay together: austin, tx – hamilton pools (one of our fav spots in austin)

Boy has time passed…

Sept 1, 2007 – yes I am throwing the deuce as I walk down the aisle. that’s how i roll. and look how many attended the ceremony. the church was packed! like it was a normal Sunday mass.

Our 1st anniversary trip to Tokyo, Japan – Dec 2008

2nd anniversary 2009 – we didn’t travel anywhere and I made us a nice dinner at home which I didn’t even take a picture of… This picture is from July 2009

Us now! May 2010. no plans on going anywhere this year either.

well I’m back from my short and sweet vacay. I want to stay in Mexico and play on the beach forever! but i did miss you all and missed reading blogs…

at Port of Galveston, waiting for my hubby to park the car so we can head in.

part of the crew. there was a total of 20 of us. really hard to coordinate.

Day 2, we all sorta kinda matched, in honor of the birthday girl.

another friend came as well and her bday was earlier in the month and we bought a cake for them both to blow out candles. the cake was delicious!

10 of played bingo and not one of us won! wasted $200 bucks! it would have been better if we just put all our names in a hat and drew a name. at least one of us would have won $200!

1,2,3 Jump! I am the only one that succeeded.

My sister’s camera has a successful JUMP picture but I don’t have it yet.

the boys and I climbed and jumped into the water. loads of fun!

jumped and did flips on the water trampoline. didn’t know i was still capable of doing flips…

i love how my friend’s back has zigzag marks. her bf did an awesome job putting on sunblock for her.
